On leaving my employer of 14 years and finding myself with some free time, I have embarked on a month-long transitional road trip from the UK to the Dalmatian Coast with my camera. I will post my photographs and comments here as I go.
So far I have visited Amsterdam, Heidelberg and Salzburg. Here is a selection from week one…

Reflections, Amsterdam

Canal Boats, Amsterdam

Old Bridge, Heidelberg

Castle Gardens, Heidelberg

Hohensalzburg Fortress

Salzach, Salzburg

Colin, your wonderful photos are just another timeless reminder that the Europe I travelled forty years ago-your exact itinerary included-hasn’t changed in its beauty or respective, even as our world has inevitably lurched forward and adapted to powerful developmental and political forces. I pray future generations can stroll the canal paths, gaze from the bridges and scale the cliffs of these historic and timeless destinations.

Fred, thank you for your kind comments. I do find these central European cities timeless and similar to each other, although with unique charm. I hope that this will persist and we will find a way beyond the current populism to a new era of empathy and understanding of our interdependence.

Bonne Route Colin! You are following in Leigh Fermor footsteps I think. Wishing you at time of gifts too.

Thank you Louise, I am driving rather than walking and will not get all the way to Istanbul, but I appreciate the inspiring thought.

Looking forward to following your reflections. The world is bubbling with moments of synchronicity just now, hope you have some interesting moments of your own along the way.
